I was asked by Hertz to help them with their Big Travel List and being a big cheerleader of Birmingham I thought I’d share a little known fact about the second city, the indie coffee shops here are brilliant! So without further ado, here are five of the best indie coffee shops in Birmingham. You should probably check them out sometime.
1. Yorks Bakery Cafe
The decor of Yorks is exactly what I look for in an indie coffee shop. It’s cool, clean and full of brilliant art to look at. They offer a great range of pastries from their bakery, I like the chocolate brownies, and they do coffee very well. They are a stone’s throw from the cathedral, so nice and central. They open early, at 7.30am until around 8/9pm.
They are doing marvellously well, adding a third coffee shop to their repertoire. The Urban Coffee Co. is all about a good quality experience. With great coffee, tasty pastries and fast Wifi, this is an ideal spot for freelancing folks like myself.
Focusing on using high quality ingredients as well as a top of the range machine (apparently this makes a difference to the coffee taste) the Six Eight Kafe seeks to use local as much as possible. A small but perfectly formed coffee shop, their cake is delicious!
4. Cafe Blend
Claims to be the only coffee shop in the UK to uniquely serve both coffee and cocktails. Totally worth checking out for the espresso martini! Home to great service and a huge range of beverages to choose from. It’s within walking distance of New Street station and just outside the Mailbox.
