Birmingham: 5 Best Indie Coffee Shops

We have some great coffee shops here in Birmingham. I thought today I would share five of the best indie coffee shops in Birmingham. You should probably check them out sometime.

Yorks Bakery Cafe

1. Yorks Bakery Cafe

The decor of Yorks is exactly what I look for in an indie coffee shop. It’s cool, clean and full of brilliant art to look at. They offer a great range of pastries from their bakery, I like chocolate brownies, and they do coffee very well. They are a stone’s throw from the cathedral, so nice and central. They open early, at 7.30 am until around 8/9 pm.

Urban Coffee Company

2. Urban Coffee Co.

They are doing marvellously well, adding a third coffee shop to their repertoire. The Urban Coffee Co. is all about a good quality experience. With great coffee, tasty pastries and fast Wifi, this is an ideal spot for freelancing folks like myself.

Six Eight Kafe

3. Six Eight Kafe (now closed)

Focusing on using high-quality ingredients as well as a top of the range machine (apparently this makes a difference to the coffee taste) the Six Eight Kafe seeks to use local as much as possible. A small but perfectly formed coffee shop, their cake is delicious!

Cafe Blend

4. Cafe Blend (now closed)

Claims to be the only coffee shop in the UK to uniquely serve both coffee and cocktails. Totally worth checking out for the espresso martini! Home to great service and a huge range of beverages to choose from. It’s within walking distance of New Street station and just outside the Mailbox.

5. Brewsmiths (now closed)

A local indie favourite for the city folk working in the CBD area of Birmingham. This delightful coffee shop is housed in a railway arch not far from Snow Hill station and the Jewellery Quarter.

Are you a Birmingham local?

What is your favourite Birmingham coffee shop?

  1. Oooh some of my faves in there! (I’d probably put Yorks top too!)

Am yet to try brewsmiths, oddly, as it’s probably the closest to me! Will have to rectify this!

  2. I wish I drank coffee as I’d check all of these out when I visit home. Glad to hear you like Cafe Blend; one of my school friends is the owner. 😀

  3. Urban Coffee Co always ranks high on my list. Love Yorks but had bad service there once. Have you been to Frederick’s in the Jewellery Quarter? They have a bar too.
Have you checked out the new Urban Coffee Co in Harborne? It’s so cosy but so fab! Really made the space work.

Coffee shops are definitely a freelancers best office from home – totally agree
