This is a quick heads up to let you know about the Blogging Code of Ethics FREE download I wrote for the Blognix website.
I originally wrote the code back in December/January time when I first ran my Big Blogging Bootcamp e-course. It went down really there and I figured that it would be rude not to share it!
It’s still work-in-progress so I wanted to make the Blogging Code of Ethics free for anyone to download and use as a guide but also to offer their feedback and input.
You see, ethics as a whole is such a subjective and dynamic topic that it’s tricky to pin down a definitive guide. So by sharing with you all, I’m hoping that it might generate some discussion and spark some interest.
Blogging needs a code of ethics because we have a responsibility not only to our own integrity but that of our community of Bloggers too.
If we want to be treated equally to journalists and other media professionals then we need to conduct ourselves in an honest, fair and transparent way.
BLOGGING CODE OF ETHICS
1. Link to and credit material you reference including your inspiration and sources.
2. Only publish facts you have checked. Present opinion as opinion, rather than fact.
3. Disclose the following:
Conflict of interests
Any other material that you receive benefit from whether monetary, comped or gift in kind
4. Note any biases you may have.
5. Don’t feed the trolls.
6. Don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t say in person.
