Hotel La Tour Review

Back in June we stayed at my favourite hotel in Birmingham, Hotel la Tour, whilst organising Blognix. It was the perfect spot to relax in between the mayhem of the conference.

Hotel la Tour is an independent luxury 4 star hotel in central Birmingham. It’s ideally located just a few minutes from the Bull Ring shopping centre and the train stations. And just a 10 minute walk from the Custard Factory, where we hosted Blognix.

As the organisers of Blognix, we needed a hotel that was guaranteed to give us a good night’s sleep, feed us quickly with delicious breakfast in the morning, and with a enough space in the room to get the final bits and bobs sorted for the conference.

Hotel la Tour totally fit the bill.

We arrived around lunchtime on the Friday before Blognix and checked in with reception. They do have some rather snazzy self check-in machines which must be perfect during busy periods. But it was super quiet when we got there so we checked-in via the receptionist. She was incredibly professional and helpful, and we even got to request to be in a top floor room so we could see some views.

We made our way up to our gorgeous room. Quickly hung up our clothes for the following day and made a dash to the venue to set-up.

The room itself is a comfortable size with a large bed, two different textures of pillow (some prefer soft, some hard), there’s a thin wardrobe for hanging clothes along with an iron and ironing board. A small tea/coffee area and a safe.

There’s no overpriced minibar here. If you want refreshments they are more than happy to bring some to your room. As someone who has never used a hotel mini bar, I was fine with that.

The room had a decent-sized desk/dressing table next to which was an array of sockets for charging all kinds of devices. An essential these days! My favourite was the plug socket next to the bed – I was practically chained to my smartphone over Blognix weekend so I need access to battery top-ups constantly.

The room also has a bluetooth system, that hooks up to the TV. So after watching a bit of news in the morning we were able to listen to our Spotify playlists via the speakers. Hoorah! Much needed when getting psyched up for a full-on conference.

Let’s not even get started on how awesome the bathroom was! It was spotless, something that I find lacking so often in hotels. The bathroom was pristine with gorgeous finishings, a huge shower with a powerful rainfall shower-head, perfect for waking me up on the morning of Blognix after just 5 hours sleep.

And of course, as I mentioned before, the food at Hotel la Tour is brilliant. We had breakfast included both days and it was an utter godsend for our weary bodies. We loaded up of delicious barista-made coffee, helped ourselves to fresh pastries and filled up on a cooked breakfast. I knew we wouldn’t get much to eat over the day so this was a blessing; a perfect start to the day.

I’ve made a cute little 2 minute video of our time at Hotel la Tour including a sneak peek at the breakfast and inside our room. Hope you like it!

I can honestly say Hotel la Tour is one of my favourite hotels, and certainly my favourite in Birmingham. I have been there a few times, staying at the hotel, eating in the Aalto restaurant and sampling their afternoon tea. Every time I have been to this hotel I have been impressed by the impeccable service, stunning decor and excellent food. I’d happily recommend it to you.
