Interior Inspiration: Mantel Styling

I think the mantelpiece has to be one of my favourite parts of my new home. I think in any home it can be the centre of a living room (rather than an ugly television) and a place to share and display some of your favourite things. These are few of my favourite mantelpiece’s I have pinned on my Pinterest.

I have a proper fireplace in my living room with a large black hearth and it is an ideal spot for decorating and rearranging on a whim. Most of the time I will have some vintage glass medicine bottles filled with flowers on either end of the mantle. I also like to keep little meaningful keepsakes such as our silver Ganesh and our wooden Buddha. In amongst it all I might pop a little kitschy deer ornament I picked up at the Car Boot Sale for 20p, or maybe a decorative glass pot, or my favourite vintage camera. At the bottom of the hearth I have my elegant hand-operated Singer sewing machineĀ  and a little coca0cola frame I found on ebay years ago. I really enjoy playing with the visuals of the mantelpiece but I am always looking for more inspiration.

  1. I have a mantlepiece in my bedroom! Love it. It’s got all of my nice stuff on it. My cameras, my London street sign, some vintage-y bits and bobs and nice photo frames and my ‘to read’ and ‘super special’ books.

I’d only ever put pretty things on a mantlepiece – that’s what they’re for, isn’t it?

  2. One big complaint that I have about my house is that we don’t have a mantle or fireplace. I do have a bookshelf that could use some sprucing up and these pics are giving me some ideas. I especially like the stacked books and flowers.

  3. Our new house has a fireplace (with no fire, but beggars can’t be choosers!), and I agree, they should be the focal point of the room. Yours is lovely – I love the glass bottles with flowers. When do we get the whole house tour?!

  4. I have been loving your mantlepiece Pins. I think I definitely like layerss of things and curios – I love classically styled matle shots, but my own style is not at all, and layers suit.

I also think your mantle is spot on for you!

As you know, the top of our bookcase has been our ‘mantle’ for the last few years, but we’ve decided to open up the original hearths in out flat, and will definitely put a mantle over one (the other will just be the hearth, filled with candles probably). This post has made me all excited for doing it!
