I think the mantelpiece has to be one of my favourite parts of my new home. I think in any home it can be the centre of a living room (rather than an ugly television) and a place to share and display some of your favourite things. These are few of my favourite mantelpiece’s I have pinned on my Pinterest.
I have a proper fireplace in my living room with a large black hearth and it is an ideal spot for decorating and rearranging on a whim. Most of the time I will have some vintage glass medicine bottles filled with flowers on either end of the mantle. I also like to keep little meaningful keepsakes such as our silver Ganesh and our wooden Buddha. In amongst it all I might pop a little kitschy deer ornament I picked up at the Car Boot Sale for 20p, or maybe a decorative glass pot, or my favourite vintage camera. At the bottom of the hearth I have my elegant hand-operated Singer sewing machine and a little coca0cola frame I found on ebay years ago. I really enjoy playing with the visuals of the mantelpiece but I am always looking for more inspiration.
