I have a good stash of chocolate sat in the fridge. I always do. I am one of those hoarders who has to keep chocolate in the house, even if I don’t eat it. I have no idea why. I just do. At the moment there are about 5 bars of chocolate in my fridge. Instead of letting it waste away I am think of different ways to enjoy my chocolate. This weekend I made real homemade hot chocolate. Not that powdered stuff mixed with milk, but real chunks of chocolate melted down in the saucepan with some milk and infused with a stick of cinnamon It is the perfect warm comforting drink for the November cold. *says the girl sat in her house with a blanket permanently wrapped around her*
Delicious proper hot chocolate spiced with cinnamon. This is a must-have in the colder months. It’s thick, delicious and warming. I love the cinnamon but you could substitute with nutmeg or ginger.
It’s almost like the coffee shops, but better.
Cinnamon Hot Chocolate (serves 2)
- 250ml milk
- 70g chocolate
- 1 cinnamon stick
- tiny pinch of salt
- in a small milkpan heat the milk and chocolate on a low-medium heat. stir every few minutes to combine the ingredients.
- when the chocolate has melted add the cinnamon stick with a really tiny pinch of salt. turn the heat to low.
- allow the infuse for 3-5 minutes. remove the cinnamon and serve.
tip: you can use any of your favourite warming spices – nutmeg, ginger, or even a tiny pinch of chilli.
tip: don’t let the milk boil. I got distracted with my other dishes and let it warm too much. it’s not a disaster but you can get that film on the top of the milk.
Enjoy!
