It’s that time of the week again when we take a moment to nourish ourselves mind, body and spirit. It’s Self-Care Sunday!
For the past couple of weeks I have dedicated every Sunday to self-care and already I’m feeling the benefits (see previous posts here and here). I’m generally more focused and relaxed on a Monday morning. By taking time to concentrate on myself I am actually more productive the rest of the time (something I usually worry about is not working at every possible moment I can).
This Sunday I decided to get outside and enjoy the glorious sunshine we have had this weekend. We started off with a gentle wander around the local car boot sale where I bought a few more vintage finds (I’ll share those on the blog this week). The place was rammed with stalls and people so we only managed half before making our way off to find somewhere more peaceful.
We chose to head off to a different area local to us called Hopwood. It’s a small village based around the Birmingham canal. Conveniently they have a canalside pub with a humungous beer garden, so we enjoyed a leisurely lunch and soft drink before taking a stroll under the beautifully canopied canal.
I am a huge fan of waterways in England. I’ve been on a few family holidays doing the narrowboats on the canals. It’s such a gentle, chilled-out way to travel. It totally slows you down when life potters along at 4mph.
For the most part, I think us Brits forget that we have so many canals all over the country. They tend to be pretty peaceful parts of both the towns and countryside. Often, when on the boats, you forgot where you are. It’s so different to everyday British life. I love it.
It was a charming way to potter through the day. We had literally just thrown on the comfiest clothes we could find, grabbed a pair of sunnies and made for the canal. I feel so fortunate to have such beautiful places so close to home. Something anyone can enjoy for free!
Self-Care Sunday was once again a success. Hoorah!
