About a month ago I bid a farewell to an old friend who has emigrated to the UAE to start a new life and adventure. Just before he left he took me out for a slap-up dinner and cocktails at the Social Eating House in Soho. It was an unexpectedly delicious evening of quirky cocktails, more-ish food and totally buzzing atmosphere. And the company of my friend certainly helped!
Who doesn’t love a quirky cocktail? This one is the Last Tango in Paris and it comes in a juice box with a straw! It was just one part of the experience that makes the Social Eating House so fun to spend time at.
I ordered a rather classier looking cocktail, it was a Vitamin C Vesper I think – perfectly balanced and super-strong. It was delicious.
We started the evening on the top level bar which is called The Blind Pig. Inside the decor is vintage-inspired with a gentleman’s club vibe – think dark wood, distressed leather and copper fixtures. It was rather sumptuous surroundings, and paired with the attentive service of the staff it was a rather lovely chilled out atmosphere for catching up with an old friend.
I know it’s probably not the done thing, but I had to take picture of the loo! It was one of the coolest loos I’ve been in. So old school in design, and look! It’s an old water closet design with the flush at the top. I do enjoy a good bathroom, and this is one of my favourites.
Whilst I was busy taking photos of the loos my friend sneakily booked us into the restaurant downstairs as a surprise. It was awesome! The restaurant and totally different, but brilliant, vibe to upstairs. The lights were loo, the tables were arranged cosily together, and for a Monday night it was surprisingly jammed packed with patrons. The service from our waitress was perfect, she happily answered all our questions about the menu and made us feel really at home.
I started off with one of the best starters ever – Duck ‘ham’ with White Egg and Chips. Served on a chopping board, as is the done thing these days, and it tasted incredible. The duck was smoked yet light, the yolk in the was perfectly runny so I could dip my chips to my hearts content. Ooooh…. it was so good.
My friend has the salmon to start followed by the lamb, and I had a the pork which I seem to have forgotten to photograph. Nevermind. I can tell you that it was all delicious. The food was presented perfectly and all a good size portion. We left feeling very satisfied indeed.
It was a pricier meal than usual, so it’s certainly a treat kind of meal. But highly recommended! We had great fun sampling the cocktails and the food was perfection.
