How much are these shorter winter days kicking your butt? I am so tired it's unreal. Despite spending many years on this planet and experiencing many winters, I still forget how much winter changes your energy.⁠⠀

Nature wants us to slow down. It wants us to rest. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Of course, this is a struggle when work, life, family, STUFF, is still happening.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
So what do we do?⁠⠀

For me, I'm thinking I need to figure out some new mini winter routines to incorporate into my daily and weekly routines. I need things that help with my energy levels, but also embrace the slowing down of the season. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
It's a work in progress, and as I yawn loudly for the 7th time whilst writing this, I definitely think it needs more naps included. ⁠⠀

As a coach I believe in abundance in business. I feel no competitiveness with other coaches, because there is the right coach for everybody out there. We have to pick the person we resonate with, who we feel we can trust and work best with.

I know that I will and can be that person for some people. And for others, I won’t be the right fit. And that’s totally ok.

I will happily recommend and give shoutouts to any of the other brilliant coaches doing fabulous work. We are all here to make a difference and help people.

You don’t need to pick the first coach you come across, shop around and choose the coach who you vibe with, their words resonate, their approach uplifts or challenges you, or the person who you know will support you in a safe way as you make life transformations.

10 minutes of sun on the face - just a small goal, something achievable, something that you know is nourishing, is an act of self-care, and will help you feel grounded.⁠⠀

As we head into lockdown in England, this is my pledge to myself and I invite you to join me. Commit to just one small act of self-care. Something that is manageable, not something that will make you feel bad if you don't do it.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Because now, more than ever, it is vital that we act gentle with ourselves. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
It's ok to be sad. It's ok to be overwhelmed. It's ok to worried. It's ok to feel a whole host of emotions.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I'm not here to promote false positivity when there are moments when we need to really feel those emotions and appreciate why we have them rather than bury them.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Because in the moment that we feel bad, but in the next moment we might feel a little better.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
All emotions have something to tell us. Our job is to listen. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀

I randomly developed a panic disorder a few years

I randomly developed a panic disorder a few years ago. It was seemingly out of nowhere and were utterly terrifying to experience, and from what I hear, to witness.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
These extreme panic attacks would occur randomly at any time, any where. It was terrifying, particularly if it happened in a public place.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Except for one time when I was in a train station alone, I had somebody nearby to help me when I was in a panic attack. Something that can last a few minutes, which, when you can't breathe, feels like a long time. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Over the years of having panic attacks here are some of the techniques I learned that helped ease the panic attack and sometimes managed to bring them to an end gently in a timely manner. ⁠⠀

🌿 HOW TO HELP SOMEBODY HAVING A PANIC ATTACK 🌿 ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ Reassure them that they are safe and that you will stay with them.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ Ask them to breathe slowly with you in and out for 4 counts.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ Suggest they pretend to blow out a candle.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ If they are disassociating, ask them to name the colour of random objects, or read the words of nearby books or signs.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ With permission, rub the middle of their back.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ Ask them to squeeze their own hands together.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ Ask them to wiggle their toes or gently tap their feet on the ground.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ Ask if they have any medication they need to take.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
▷ Most importantly, if they can't breathe, call emergency services.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
These are a few things that have helped me personally in the past. Having somebody guide me through breathing and grounding when the brain is in a state of panic really reduced the length of the panic attack.⁠⠀

Note that they are only suggestions and you don't need to do all of them. And different techniques work for different people.⁠⠀
⁠⠀

I have always wanted to help people. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- When I was in 10 years old I spent all night creating a giant treasure map on lots of paper stuck together, constructed a donation box, and set up a fundraiser in my classroom to raise money for Comic Relief, using my own pocket money to buy prizes (bags of 10p mix-ups) for the winners. All without any teacher asking.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- At 18 I organised a talent showcase at college to raise money for an MS charity. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- When I was 20 I dropped out of uni to start a whole new degree in Anthropology so I could learn more about people and how best to help them.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- At 22 I organised an entire week of campaigning and fundraising events for International Women's Week, raising £2000 for my local women's refuge. They took the women to a West End Show, it was one of the highlights of the year for them.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- I did the same the following year.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- Aged 24 years old I volunteered for three months at a cancer charity's head office in projects. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- When I was 26 I did a MSc in development and worked with Hmong women in Laos to look at tourism as a tool for poverty alleviation.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- At 28 I helped dig a gravity-fed water system to a village of cocoa farmers in Dominican Republic.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
- In my 30s I have been donating a percentage of all my events and courses to mental health charities. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
My back injury and poor mental health this past decade has made serving others take a back seat and it bothers me.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I want the work that I do to be beneficial, to change people's lives for the better, to make a difference in the world. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I share all of this to show that fundraising, campaigning, and advocacy have been a part of who I am since I was a child. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
As my health improves and my capabilities allow it, I want the work I do to make a difference. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
As this next chapter of my work begins I will be weaving in several different ways to do just that. I'll share more soon once I have it set up.⁠⠀

I guess sharing it here makes it an accountability thing. And to say that anything we can do can help, no matter how big or small, can change the world.

We had a wide-ranging discussion about belief systems and the power of creating your own rituals. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
This idea that belief is a resource we can create for ourselves to self-soothe, create comfort, is incredibly empowering. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
As Holland said, what is personal spirituality if it is not autonomy?⁠⠀
⁠⠀
We chatted about how a lot of our autonomy has been removed from us and repackaged and sold back to us. A lot of this has stemmed from our disconnection with the natural world, but also the societal structure of capitalism.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Holland shares that making things is a crucial part of her spiritual practice, it's where she finds meaning.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
I find this idea incredibly profound and it's something I am thinking through at the moment. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Belief can mean different things for each of us, and yet whatever that belief is, it's incredibly powerful.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Belief could be religious, or it could be personal spirituality. Belief can also be something we have about ourselves, about others. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Whatever the beliefs we hold are, they are meaningful to us. So if you are feeling a bit out of sorts, have a think about what you believe - spiritual or personal? How can it centre you, ground you in this moment? How can it empower you in a positive way?⁠⠀
⁠⠀
At a time when it might feel like our personal resources are depleted, belief is something you can nurture and grow. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
