My bacon obsession is pretty well documented on this blog. In fact, I still get friends sending me links to bacon products, memes and paraphernalia. I’ve made quite a name of my bacon love. Probably not surprisingly I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to bacon.
Like my Dad always says … “bacon is one of your five-a-day”.
Another mild obsession I have with food is the combination of sweet and salty. My bacon brownies were a surprising hit at my friend’s party. And this recipe is continuing that theme…
Candied Bacon is the perfect salty and sweet concoction. It goes surprisingly well with vanilla ice cream. It is deliciously crispy, sweet and not as meaty as you’d think.
If you want to try something a little bit different, or hoping to surprise your friends at your next dinner party, give this Candied Bacon a try. It takes barely any effort at all.
Candied Bacon (Serves 4)
4 tbsp Light Brown Sugar
1 tsp Paprika
1/2 tsp Chilli Powder
8 rashers of Streaky Bacon
8 tbsp Maple Syrup
Preheat the oven to 180C.
Combine the sugar and spices in a shallow bowl and press the bacon into the mixture on both sides.
Place the bacon on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
Remove from the oven and using a baking brush coat one side of bacon with the maple syrup.
Return to the oven for 5 minutes before turning the bacon and coating with more maple syrup. Place back in the oven for another 5 minutes.
Place the crispy bacon on a small dish and refrigerate to harden for at least an hour.
